Learn how to make washi tape frames on the cheap! These $1 frames were assembled in a few minutes in two easy steps. Get the EASY tutorial for them here.
Do you have an IKEA nearby? If not, you need to get one. Ha! I know that it easier said than done. So basically you just need to find a great source for inexpensive frames nearby and you are good to go.
For me, it was IKEA. These cool plastic frames were $1, so I stocked up – and then when I got home, realized that I needed to spice them up in some way.
Because while plain white frames are awesome in some circumstances, washi tape makes everything better. Here’s how I easily (and quickly) decorated these frames.
DIY Washi Tape Frames
Gather These Supplies
- Budget frames
- Washi tape
- Craft knife
These are pretty much the only supplies you need, and a craft knife. This project takes just a few minutes (craft night idea, anyone?).
So what I did was start by rolling the washi tape out on each edge. Sometimes washi doesn’t stick to plastic, but in this case it did really well.
Then use your craft knife at the edge of each corner to cut a 45 degree angle (diagonal). That’s about it. Do it where the washi meets up.
Repeat with the other frame.
As you can see, I used four different tapes for this frame! I also trimmed around the round base using my craft knife. It’s THAT easy. Do this on both sides to finish out the frame.
So in minutes my frames went from kinda boring to fun! These make great gifts, especially with a picture in them. I know that everyone wants a gift of a frame with my dogs’ picture in it. Right?
