Don’t spend a ton of money to decorate your tree – you can make this custom DIY tree topper using your favorite colors of washi tape!
First off, I apologize for the weird lighting in the above picture. It really doesn’t do this project justice! Creating your own monogram DIY tree topper is not only easy but it really adds a classy modern touch. If you’re looking for a cute project for the holidays, this is it!
- Wooden skewer
- Washi tape
Take the cardboard and use the pencil to sketch out your letter for the monogram. I opened a computer program to experiment with fonts, then just copied what I saw. Cut the letter out with scissors.
Then take washi tape and cover the letter from one side to the other. Alternate the different colors you use into a striped pattern.
Make sure the entire letter is covered. Then flip it over. Use your scissors to trim the edges of the tape, folding over any little bit that hangs over the sides.
It should look really nice now! Add the wooden skewer to the back with a couple of washi strips. Make sure the pointy part of the wood is facing down so it will stay better in the tree.
Then stick your monogram into the tree top! It’s been a conversation piece whenever we have visitors around the holidays. It’s a different look than the traditional star or angel. Personalize it for your home and change up the washi tape to match your decor.
