Washi tape embellished party spoonsHello, fellow washi fans! This is Sarah, back from Bombshell Bling. Today I have a non-home decor washi idea for you. I will admit, it is one of my first.

I tend to use my washi for frames, frames, and, well, more frames. I may be a *tad* bit addicted. But not today!

Today I am sharing with you how I used washi to embellish these cute wooden party spoons. I think they are perfect for a party, don’t you?

These small, plain wooden spoons came into my possession through a craft blogger stash swap. They have been sitting in my basement for a year and a half gathering dust (figuratively . . . they were sealed up in a plastic bag, so they were actually perfectly clean and dust free).

I had no idea what to do with them, because, quite frankly, I have a weird texture thing and shiver to think of wooden spoons in my mouth.

You know the feeling when you are licking a popsicle and then you suddenly lick the stick instead? Yikes. I hate that. *Shudder.*

ANYWAY . . . my personal issues aside, it finally dawned on me what these spoons could be useful for: parties!

The vast majority of people in this world are not weirdos like me who dislike wooden spoons, and by using Washi Tape to jazz up these spoons they become the perfect little finishing touch for any party decor!

Obviously, they are fully customizable to your party’s theme and color scheme, and they are incredibly simple to make. Let’s take a look.

Washi Tape Wooden Spoons

Washi-Tape-Spoons-1Start with plain wooden spoons (there is a large selection on Amazon) and washi tape. That’s all you will need.

Washi-Tape-Spoons-2Start at the bottom of your spoon’s handle and wrap some washi around it. Simply tear it in the back. I wasn’t crazy precise about it, although you could just grab some scissors if you wanted to be.

Repeat using different tapes until the tape goes all the way up the handle. Now just repeat on the other spoons! It’s simple, but a tad time consuming. I like to do this type of crafting in front of one of my favorite tv shows.

Washi-Tape-Spoons-3Ta-da! What do you think? I decided to go with oranges and yellows because I thought it made the spoons feel summery, like they would be perfect for an outdoor ice cream party. What do you think?

Just used washi tapes for the first time recently. I did three strips on wood spoons to go with homemade scrub (so not so time consuming). Your party idea would jazz up plain white plastic utensils & then you could skip the creepy feeling 🙂
