It’s so easy to capture precious moments of your vacations in a crafty way – learn how to decorate this cute summer memory book with washi tape.
Hi, it’s Melanie again from ItHappensinaBlink.com. I’m here today to share a fun summer idea for the kids. I always plan special things for my daughter during the summer, and it’s obvious that she enjoys them because she talks about the activities for months!
This year, I decided to make her a little book to record moments or photos of the summer events that she liked the most.
This Washi Tape Summer Memory Book is easy to make. If you have older children, they will be able to help out creating their book.
- Chipboard book
- Washi Tape
- Thick board or self-healing mat
- Craft blade
- Optional: Mod Podge and foam applicator
The core material for this craft is a chipboard book. These little books can be found at any arts and crafts store. I purchased mine at Michael’s. Often they are on clearance at the end of the season.
Many times, crafters apply scrapbook paper to chipboard books. But I think washi tape is a prettier and easier way to go!
Most of the chipboard books have a ring that is able to be opened. If yours does, open it and remove the top shape. If not, then open the book up and flatten out the first shape.
Apply a single strip of washi tape down the center of the shape. Use the washi tape to secure the shape to the board or mat.
Cover the shape with washi tape until it is fully covered.
Using the craft blade, carefully cut the washi tape along the edge of the shape. Also cut out any details on the inside of the shape. Clean up any rough edges.
I repeated the above steps on the back cover of the chipboard book.
Optional: Not all washi tape is created equal. I’ve purchased some washi tape that is very high quality and would adhere to surfaces like glue. And then there are others that are the total opposite.
If the tape that you’ve chosen is not sticking well to the chipboard, apply a little Mod Podge over the washi tape to secure it.
Re-attach the chipboard to the ring. Now it’s time to start recording those memories!
